This is us in front of our first cabin – The Jack Cabin.

In 2014, my husband and I decided to buy a property. Mainly it was for tax purposes, and as adults, it’s always good to have assets. We didn’t have fine art or diamond jewelry, so buying a property seemed like our best bet. Then we looked at where we lived. The Bay Area. Since we didn’t have a million dollars, we decided to look at Tahoe where homes were actually affordable.

So one thing led to another, and after hours of Zillowing, we found the Jack Cabin – named after our dog. It didn’t look like a cabin at all when we got it. It looked like a little white house. But I promised when we were done with it, it would look like a cozy cabin.

Lastly, we knew that we wanted to rent it out so others could enjoy our place when we weren’t there. My goal was to give our cabin character, more than just your standard cookie cutter vacation rental. Really put some personality into it, but without breaking the budget. I think we did a great job!

We did such a great job and enjoyed it so much that we decided to do it again. This blog will follow the renovations of and my design ramblings about our new cabin. We named it after our daughter – The Julianna Cabin.

My goal is for our designs to always look cool, but not without breaking the bank, because at the end of the day, it is a vacation rental and it has to stand up to traffic. You have to be able to part with pieces if they do get destroyed – God forbid. So hopefully you’ll find this inspiring or at the very least, entertaining.
